"The Good Life"

 Skeet Field Hours:

Ophir Skeet Range will NO LONGER be open during our regular business hours of Sat&Sun-1pm-5pm.

Starting July 13th, 2008 we will ONLY be open by appointment.

I am very sorry to have to close our range on the weekends but we have had a decline in business over the last few months. With Skeet, Shells, and Gas prices climbing this is the best decision for our family.

If you would like to schedule a time to shoot please contact Lee Haywood

(Info on "Contact Information" page at left)

*Note: I will be happy to arrange a convienant time for you to shoot  that works with my schedule.

"O-ther P-eople H-ave I-t R-ough!, NC"

Ophir Skeet Field is nestled in the backwoods of Montgomery County, North Carolina in the quiet community of Ophir.  The range has been in operation for 28 years and was built by Max Morris. Lee Haywood (granddaughter) operates the skeet range on weekends. You will find a friendly atmoshphere at Ophir Skeet Field where you can relax and enjoy the wonderful sport of Skeet Shooting.

Ophir is a great place to enjoy outdoor activities. The back drop to our field is part of the beautiful Uwharrie mountain range. Ophir is only 5 minutes from Eldorado, NC  where many visitors enjoy ATV , ORV, and Horse trails in the wildlife reservation. It is also 2 minutes from the Uwharrie River where you can paddle a canoe and fish. There are many spots to hike and camp along the Uwharrie Trail which runs through the area.  The small town or Troy is 15 minutes south down 109 and Albemarle, Asheboro, and Denton are each within a 30 minute drive of Ophir.

Two rules to remember when you come to the skeet field:

Anyone who has never fired a shotgun will not be allowed to shoot at our range. Our customers need to be familiar with their shotgun and comfortable handling it around others. If you have never shot at a skeet range...no problem!...we can teach you the sport but we are not responsible for teaching you to fire a shotgun.

Youth: Any young person must be big enough to handle their shotgun through an entire round of skeet and must know gun safety and range rules.

How do you call for a skeet?:
Pull!!! Haa! Aight! Pullit! Pup! Yep!Pull'em! Hip! Okay! Go! Pulp! Now!

Note:
If you need some practice before dove season rolls around don't forget to make an appointment to shoot at the skeet range so you can polish up your skills before you hit the fields. Please remember to test your shotgun before you come to our range to make sure it works properly.

Thank You,

Our "Regulars" like Guy (above) are what has kept Ophir Skeet range a sucess over the years...even though we have cut our hours to appointment only we still love to see new faces. Bring a buddy with you the next time you stop by...that's the only way this sport will grow! We have a lot of youth beginning to shoot at our range and it's great to see a kid break his or her first skeet. Take your child out and show him or her basic firearm safety.  It is important that we keep shooting sports alive in our community. Thanks to everyone who shoots at our range:) You make it a pleasure to come and work!
