Even though our hours have changed to appointment only we will still hold our
annual tournament at Ophir Skeet Field
(as long as there is enough interest).
The 5th Annual Backwood's Boom (2008)will be held in the
fall this year.

Ophir Skeet Field (Ophir, N.C.)
We will be having the Fourth annual "BackWoods Boom" skeet Tournament here in Ophir on Saturday August 11,2007. It will
not be a registered tournament but will be very organized and conducted on a schedule. Trophies will be given to the top 3
shooters in an "A" and "B" class, and also to the 1st place Female shooter and 1st place youth 18 or
under (scoring details below). It should be a great day of shooting, socializing, and sun! We will also have door prizes,
a raffle, T-Shirts for sale and plenty of food off the grill! Hopefully this will be a time to relax in the country, learn
from fellow shooters, and enjoy the great sport of skeet shooting!

When: Saturday, AUGUST 11, 2007(if needed) (Rain date: Saturday AuGUST 18, 2006
Time: Saturday AUGUST 11, 9:30 am CHECK-IN for shooters
9:45am (Reading of Rules/Safety info- MANDATORY for all shooters!)10:00am tournament starts(Ending will depend on number of
shooters Entered)
Entry fee: $40.00 (covers rounds shot, food,
and misc. fees for tournament)
Rounds: Each entrant will shoot 100 targets (4 rounds)
Shooting groups: Five entrants will shoot in a group
at one time and groups will be assigned on a first paid first served basis.
Gauge: We will not have individual gauge matches,
instead it is a 12 gauge tournament (You do have the option of shooting a smaller gun at your on discretion)
Awards: Given immediately following tournament’s
conclusion, 8 awards: 1st, 2nd, 3rd ‘a’ Class, 1st 2nd
3rd ‘b’ class, Top Female, and Top Youth 18 or under. (best out of 100) every shooter gets a participation
certificate and Ribbon with Tournament ranking.
Scoring Example: If we have 30 shooters (hypothetically)
then this is how it will work: when everyone is finished the scores will-be added up and the names will be listed 1-30 (highest
to lowest) then divided in half…the first 15 will be considered ‘a’ Class and the bottom 15 will be considered
‘B’ class. The top 3 out of each group will receive a trophy.
Ties: Our time schedule will not allow a shoot off.
any tied scores will be determined by a "Long Run from the Front" system (Shooter who went the longest without missing a bird)

Don’t Forget…(suggestions for shooters and spectators):
It’s going to be hot! There will be tents (sunscreen, hat, umbrella, etc.)
We always have plenty of bugs and gnats here in Ophir! (bug spray)
Something to sit in/on (we have some seating but if family or friends come to watch you it’ll get a little crowded
(fold up chairs, buckets, coolers, quilts, etc.)
All your shooting supplies (gun/s, ammo (four boxes of shells), shell holder/belt/vest, ear plugs, glasses, etc.)
YOUR APPETITE!!! Shooters eat free. There will be a small charge for spectators.
